A beautiful example of early 19th-century French provincial craftsmanship, this solid oak armoire dates to approximately 1830 and retains the honest character expected of a hand-built country cabinet.

Constructed using traditional pegged joinery with hand-planed oak boards, the armoire reflects a time before factory production became commonplace. The elegant molded cornice, carved floral crest, shaped raised-panel doors, and scalloped apron showcase the restrained beauty of French provincial design.

Inside, the cabinet offers generous storage with a full-width shelf and ample space for clothing, linens, or household storage. A surviving Couron & Cie paper label from Saône-et-Loire remains inside, adding an interesting chapter to the cabinet’s history, although the label is believed to represent a later owner or merchant rather than the original maker.
