The Gorham Manufacturing Company was founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1831 by Jabez Gorham and Henry L. Webster. Under the leadership of John Gorham, Jabez's son, the company grew from a small silversmith to a global leader by modernizing production with techniques like the first steam-powered drop press in the U.S. and hiring skilled European craftsmen.
