An unusual Mid-Century Modern light fixture dating to approximately the 1960s, with a distinctly European Modernist design.

The fixture has a sculptural architectural quality that sets it apart from more commonly encountered lighting of the period. Its combination of materials, proportions and construction strongly suggests European manufacture, although no maker’s label or identifying marks are present.

The design reflects the experimentation occurring in European lighting during the 1950s and 1960s, when traditional decorative forms were being replaced by cleaner geometry and more expressive sculptural forms.

A particularly uncommon example. We have been unable to locate a directly comparable fixture, and we have intentionally left the maker unattributed rather than assigning it to a designer without supporting documentation.
