Description
A handsome antique quarter-sawn oak pedestal dating to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1915.
The tall architectural form features a substantial circular top supported by a beautifully figured tapered oak column with turned details at the upper and lower sections. The quarter-sawn oak displays pronounced medullary ray figuring throughout, particularly visible along the central column and base.
The pedestal terminates in a substantial stepped circular base raised on four shaped feet. Its warm finish emphasizes the character and grain of the oak while giving the piece a strong sculptural presence.
Originally intended as a pedestal or plant stand, it is equally well suited for displaying sculpture, ceramics, architectural objects or a large decorative vessel.
