Description
A handsome pair of early 20th-century English club chairs, dating to approximately the 1920s–30s.
Each chair retains aged burgundy-red leather upholstery with deep, naturally developed surface wear and patina. The chairs have broad rolled arms, loose leather seat cushions and upholstered backs, with rows of individually applied dark metal upholstery nails outlining the shaped fronts and lower rails.
Turned bun feet at the front contrast with simple square rear legs. The relatively upright proportions and substantial construction give these chairs a particularly strong traditional English club-room appearance.
The leather shows considerable age, including cracking, fading, rubbing and areas of surface loss, particularly across the seats and arms. We would not restore or replace this leather. Its worn surface gives the pair much of their character and makes them particularly suitable for an interior where genuine age and patina are desired.
Offered as a pair.
