Sold as a pair.
This pair of wall sconces were made by the well known J.C. Virden Co. Canadian / American and date to approximately 1920 and done in the period Art Deco style. The wall mounting brackets are done in a cast metal with a bronze patination, Each sconce has a turn on/off knob at the bottom which appear to function as intended, but have not been tested. The sconces are each signed on the back with a maker's signature.
Rewired and tested.
The John C. Virden Company, a Canadian-based manufacturer of lighting fixtures, was a prominent name in the industry from the 1920s to the 1970s. Notably, they were based in Toronto at 19 Curity Ave, but also had a large factory in Cleveland, Ohio. Virden was known for its high-quality, durable lighting fixtures, often featuring Art Deco designs, and was recognized for its significant quality and detail.
