Exceptional group of early 20th century mercury glass reflector sconces by Curtis Lighting Company (often referred to as Curtis Reflector Co.).

These feature the signature ribbed prismatic green mercury glass shades designed to maximize downward light output, paired with brass wall arms and articulated joints. The prismatic patterning was engineered to refract and distribute light efficiently — a hallmark of early industrial and commercial lighting.

Founded in the late 19th century, Curtis Lighting Company was one of America’s prominent manufacturers of high-performance reflector systems during the electric lighting boom. Competing alongside companies such as Holophane, Curtis specialized in prismatic glass technology that improved illumination in factories, banks, railway stations, and civic buildings. Their mercury glass reflectors became widely used in commercial and institutional settings from the 1910s through the 1930s.
