Description

Constructed in pine with a broad moulded mantel shelf, substantial architectural pilasters and restrained hand-carved geometric detailing. The wide central frieze incorporates an elongated raised panel terminating in carved diamond-point motifs, with related geometric carving repeated on the pilasters.

The strong proportions and relatively simple ornament are characteristic of Quebec vernacular craftsmanship of the period. The pine has developed a warm, mellow surface with expected marks, wear and variations from its original architectural use.

A particularly good example of Canadian architectural salvage, offering substantial scale without excessive ornamentation and suitable for both period and contemporary interiors.

showing nice patina snd warm finished clear pine .
