Description
A First World War–era patriotic military photo frame cast in metal and retaining traces of its original painted finish. Richly decorated with symbolic motifs including a beaver, maple leaf, crossed swords, regimental drum and bugles, artillery cannons, and allied flags, the frame reflects wartime Commonwealth and Allied imagery.
The reverse bears factory pattern number 9049, consistent with production by Judd Manufacturing Co. of Wallingford, Connecticut, a major American maker of decorative cast-metal frames and commemorative objects in the early 20th century.
Frames of this type were used to display soldiers’ portraits and served as meaningful home-front keepsakes during the Great War.
