Description

Original mid century large American diner menu board with hand painted lettering and vivid original paint. Double-sided plywood construction featuring hamburgers, malts, shakes and soda pricing from a classic roadside drive-in era. Exceptional Americana advertising display piece with strong folk art character and authentic surface wear.

An exceptional surviving example of authentic American roadside diner advertising from the postwar era, this large double-sided hand-painted plywood menu board captures the bold graphic energy of 1950s drive-in culture. Executed by the regional commercial painter “Everett Sign Shop,” the board retains its vibrant original paint, expressive period typography, and layered menu alterations accumulated through years of real-world use.

Featuring classic offerings including hamburgers, malts, shakes, hot dogs, steak sandwiches, Bubble-Up soda, coffee, and pie, the sign embodies the optimism and fast-growing automobile culture of mid century America. The oversized numerals, stylized lettering, and asymmetrical menu design reflect the golden age of hand-lettered commercial signage before the rise of vinyl and mass-produced plastics.
