Description
An authentic late 19th century French provincial shop counter crafted in solid oak. Originally used in a small merchant’s shop, this piece features a thick plank work surface, two front drawers, and an open storage compartment to the interior.
The exterior is finished with simple recessed panels typical of French provincial cabinetry, while the interior shelf provided practical storage for wrapping materials and shop goods. Pieces such as this were commonly found in boulangeries, épiceries, and small village shops throughout France.
Rich patina and wear from over a century of use give the counter exceptional character while maintaining its sturdy working construction.
Today these counters are highly sought after for use as kitchen islands, retail counters, or bar service pieces, bringing authentic European shop history into contemporary interiors.
