Description
An exceptional pair of monumental early 20th-century architectural entrance doors, richly clad in aged brass and retaining their original decorative bronze hardware.
Dating to approximately 1900–1920, the doors display the substantial construction and refined classical detailing associated with important Beaux-Arts commercial and institutional architecture. Each door features a tall glazed opening framed by deeply moulded brass trim, while one retains an elaborate cast bronze escutcheon plate with scrolling acanthus ornament, circular medallions and its original pull handle.
The broad brass surfaces retain a beautifully aged, unrestored patina with natural oxidation, historic wear, old mounting marks and subtle variations in colour developed through more than a century of use. These authentic imperfections contribute greatly to their architectural character and history.
Originally likely installed in a prominent bank, hotel, theatre, department store or civic building, the doors would create a dramatic entrance to a residence, restaurant, hotel, retail interior or significant architectural project. The open panels may be fitted with clear, textured, reeded or specialty architectural glass.
A rare surviving pair with exceptional scale, material quality and decorative presence.
