Description

Substantial early 20th-century eight-light chandelier constructed in heavy cast bronze and brass, dating to approximately 1910–1925.

The fixture has a large architectural central body surrounded by eight deeply curved arms with cast scrollwork, acanthus leaf decoration and substantial candle cups. Additional cast acanthus leaves surround the underside, terminating in a decorative finial.

The tall central stem is composed of a series of turned and cast elements, suspended from an ornate openwork upper fitting, original-style chain and decorative ceiling canopy.

The fixture retains an aged bronze/brass surface with variations in colour and patina consistent with age. Its heavy construction and finely cast decorative elements are characteristic of higher-quality architectural lighting produced during the Beaux-Arts and Neoclassical Revival period.

A particularly impressive chandelier with excellent scale for a large entrance hall, dining room or commercial interior.
