Description
A rare and authentic 19th-century Canadian East Coast primitive bench retaining its original weathered blue paint surface and outstanding patina. Constructed from wide hand-planed pine boards with robust mortise-and-tenon joinery, this six-foot bench exhibits the honest wear and character that only a century of use can produce. Likely the only example known.
The simple architectural form, substantial proportions, and remnants of the original turquoise-blue paint make this a highly decorative piece suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors. A custom upholstered cushion has been added for comfort while allowing the remarkable original surface to remain the focal point.
Equally at home in an entry hall, kitchen, mudroom, covered porch, or commercial hospitality setting, this bench embodies the enduring appeal of Canadian folk and country furniture.
