These lights were mounted in the ceiling of the 20th Century Limited. Henry Dreyfuss re-designed both the exterior and interior in 1938, of the 20th Century Limited, one of the most famous of the Streamline Trains. The convex glass insert magnifies the light. Henry Dreyfuss was one of America’s foremost modern industrial designers. Starting in 1929 when Henry Dreyfuss opened his own studio until 1969 when he retired, his modernist The 20th Century Limited was an express passenger train on the New York Central Railroad (NYC) from 1902 to 1967. The train traveled between Grand Central Terminal in New York City and LaSalle Street Station in Chicago, Illinois, along the railroad's "Water Level Route".
