Description
Original early 19th-century English print titled “An Old Shepherd in a Storm,” published in London in 1802.
The composition is after British artist Richard Westall (1765–1836) and was engraved by Robert Mitchell Meadows (1763–1812). The print depicts an elderly shepherd standing with his dog and flock of sheep during an approaching storm.
The lower margin retains the original title and publication information:
“AN OLD SHEPHERD IN A STORM.”
“Publish’d according to Act of Parliament June 4 1802 by Wm Bond No. 87 Newman Street London.”
This impression retains its period hand colouring, particularly visible in the landscape, clothing and animals. It is housed in a simple antique wooden frame with aged matting.
