Incredible example
A strong early Canadian painted pine armoire, made in Quebec circa 1840.
The cabinet features a traditional two-door construction with four recessed molded panels to the front, paneled sides, a substantial molded cornice and simple cut-out base. The restrained form is characteristic of Quebec country furniture from the first half of the 19th century.
Most notable is the exceptional old painted surface, retaining extensive age cracking, wear and exposed areas developed through nearly two centuries of use. We would leave this surface completely untouched.
Original-style iron hardware and the substantial pine construction further contribute to its early character. Comparable surviving Quebec armoires demonstrate the same use of pine, paneled construction and iron hardware.
