Description

A substantial 13 foot antique counter from the Albion post office in British Columbia, dating to circa 1905. Its impressive length, panelled construction and worn wood surfaces make it a distinctive piece of Canadian commercial furniture.

The front features three framed panels, with diagonal boarding at either end and vertical boarding through the centre. Moulded trim, a broad plinth base and matching panelled ends give the counter a finished architectural presence. Darker framing contrasts with the warmer tones of the inset boards, highlighting the grain and accumulated wear.

The open rear provides accessible shelving and storage. The top combines exposed wood with a white, grey-veined marble section, as pictured.

With its local provenance and generous proportions, this counter would make a striking shop counter, reception desk or bar, or could be adapted for use as a large kitchen island.

The counter has been left in its original dry finish, preserving the aged wood surfaces, natural wear and character. A custom marble top section has been added, providing a practical work surface that complements the historic cabinetry.
