The fireplace opening is framed by substantial molded trim with a simple geometric central keystone detail.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAbove the shelf is an unusually large paneled overmantel with a projecting molded cornice. Paneled returns on both the mantel and upper section give the piece considerable depth and indicate it was designed as a significant permanent architectural feature rather than a simple applied fireplace surround.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe fir has been stripped or otherwise taken back to a natural unfinished surface, exposing the grain and warm colour of the old-growth timber.
